Buddy, the beagle

Could you survive 3 months on a deserted island? This cute little beagle, whose name is Buddy could do this feat. The dog ran away while playing on Dog Beach, Manasquan, NJ, and ended up on the nearby uninhabited Gull Island, probably walking along railroad tracks connecting the island to the inlet. Buddy probably ate clams that he dug up from the sand, and dead seagulls. What he drank during his 98-day exodus remains a mystery. The beagle was found and caught by a local animal-trapper as a “bag of bones”. Now he has to eat a lot to gain back the 16 pounds he lost.

Beagles are hound dogs, and can easily run away lured by the scent of suspected prey, so owners have to be really careful with letting them off leash. However, if your dog escapes, don’t despair. As Buddy’s example shows, there’s always hope.

What a great story! Buddy looks so thin. I hope that he will be ok! It is unbelievable how he could survive 98 day without water! Thanks for sharing this article!
