Cat & dog
We’ve always known this, but now it’s official: dogs are better than cats. An article in New Scientist compared the two pet favorites in 11 categories, and dogs beat cats by 6:5. Let’s see the details!
1. BRAINS – Dogs may have a larger brain, but when we compare it in percentage of body mass, cats win. And they also have more cortex neurons in their brains, so they won here.
2. SHARED HISTORY – Dogs were domesticated at least 16,000 ago, as opposed to the cats’ 9,500 years. 1:1
3. BONDING – Dogs won here paws down. A cat would never show as much love as a dog. Dogs-cats 2:1
4. POPULARITY – The top 10 cat owning countries have 204 million felines opposed to 173 million canines in the top 10 dog-owning countries. 2:2
5. UNDERSTANDING – Cats actually understand people almost as well as dogs, they are just no that motivated to show it. But this one still goes to the dogs. 3:2
6. PROBLEM SOLVING – Although dogs are not as good at this is some might think, they still beat cats here too. 4:2
7. VOCALIZATION – Meowing works better than barking, which may get on the owner’s nerves. 4:3
8. TRACTABILITY – You’ve guessed, dogs won here too. 5:3
9. SUPERSENSES – Surprise: the average cat has a better nose than the average dog. Their hearing is also a lot better, so this one is theirs. 5:4
10. ECO-FRIENDLINESS – In general, cats have a smaller carbon footprint, so it’s 5:5
11. UTILITY – Dogs can help humans in a lot more ways than cats, and now the match has been decided: 6:5.
DOGS RULE!

I have a dog and a cat
get along very well… so everyone is good
I have both dogs and cats and the dogs win hands down. They are always waiting for me at the door when I come home and want to go out on walks with me – the cats are so aloof, wanting things only on their own terms!
