Such is the case of Fiona Apple, the world known alt-rock singer that cancelled the last leg of her tour in South America to be with her dying dog.

On November 20, Apple posted a four-page handwritten letter to her fans in her Facebook page. In it, she explained her decision to cancel the upcoming tour dates for the time being. She tells her fans the detailed story of the life she shared with her 14 year old Pitbull.
Apple found Janet when she was a very harmed, four month old dog. She was used to pump fight dogs that would bite her in order to be riled up before matches. She had wounds on her neck and ears and was very fearful for having been treated this way. Since that moment, Janet was Fiona’s best companion. “She’s a pacifist (…) She’s the one that taught me what love is”.

The dog had been battling Addison’s disease for two years, and the last time Apple returned to her home after the US part of the tour, she found Janet in a very bad shape. “I can’t come to South America, not now. If I go away again, I’m afraid she’ll die and I won’t have the honor of singing her to sleep, of escorting her out”.

A lot has been said about this bold choice on her part. Luckily, 95% of fans support her decision and love Apple even more for it. “I am not the woman who puts her career ahead of love and friendship”. I know I do, being a dog lover myself.
