Otto, the World’s oldest dog crossed the rainbow bridge yesterday, just weeks before his 21st birthday, which would have made him 147-years-old in human years. The British dachshund-terrier mix was suffering from stomach cancer and had to be put down. Otto won the title from Guinness last October following a battle of several contestants for the empty throne of the previous record holder, Chanel. R.I.P. Otto!

Following the recent death of Gibson, the Guinness Record holder of the World’s Tallest Dog title, a new candidate has emerged to become Gibson’s heir.
Boomer, a Landseer Newfoundland dog from Casselton, N.D. can drink from the kitchen sink without lifting a paw from the floor, and stare into car windows eye to eye with drivers, but he is still somewhat below the gigantic proportions of Gibson. He stands 36 inches tall at the shoulders, measures 7 feet from nose to tail, and weighs 180 pounds, while the late Great Dane was 42.2 inches tall and 7.1 feet long. Boomer’s owner, Caryn Weber plans to send his measurements to Guinness World Records for consideration as the tallest living dog.
